Fuji Kindergarten (aka The Roof House) located near Tokyo is considered to be one of the best kindergartens in the world. Without a doubt, this place is any child’s dream; there are no walls. This is just a large space where kids can run, climb, and jump the entire day.
Takaharu Tezuka, the architect and creator of this masterpiece, wanted to explore universal activities that absolutely all children on our planet would like. No wonder the result is a kindergarten that looks more like a big, cool playground than an ordinary nursery school. The building has an oval shape and a large grass-plot in the middle. As soon as kids get on the roof, they immediately start running around in circles.
The education system in this kindergarten follows the Montessori method, which is based on supporting the natural way of children’s development. It means that adults should guide a child rather than forbid things. In this school, kids are allowed to run, play, and get bruises and bumps.
The kindergarten was built around growing trees, therefore, the designers had to place special hammocks around them in order to protect children from falling down. This is one of their favorite playing areas.
In this amazing kindergarten, kids can play outside in the fresh air for as long as the weather permits. Moreover, there are no walls between the classrooms because children feel more comfortable being surrounded by some background noise. In case a kid doesn’t want to stay indoors anymore or gets tired, he or she can just go outside. Usually, the kid circles the outdoor loop once and comes back to the class.
