The Titanic sank almost 104 years ago to the day, but while many things have changed in the world over the last century, one thing remains the same: the contrast between first class and economy.
Passengers on the Ship of Dreams were divided into first, second, and third classes. The lower classes occupied the lower part of the ship and the upper classes – you guessed it – had the top part. But the big difference was in the food. While passengers from first class were treated to Egg A L’Argenteuil, Chicken A La Maryland, Consomme Fermier and anything else that sounded remotely French, second class passengers were left to settle for spring lamb, plum pudding and American ice-cream. Which still sounds pretty good actually, especially when compared to the stewed figs, gruel, and cabin biscuits that third class passengers were left to endure. But still, at least they got fed. Which is more than you can expect from many airlines these days. Unless you’re flying first class of course.
