Courtney Holmes, a barber who lives in a small town in the US state of Iowa, decided to make a contribution to educating the kids in his neighbourhood. We’d like to recount his story here, because we think it shows perfectly how it’s possible for absolutely every one of us to do a good deed, and that wonderful things often start with something very small. Courtney began offering haircuts for free to all the kids in his neighbourhood, but only if they met his one condition...
Every child had to read a story or part of a book out loud whilst they were getting their hair cut. The idea was to encourage an interest in reading among young people.
Courtney ended up with an endless queue of children who were ready to read to him in exchange for a cool haircut. Without doubt, it’s selfless and thoughtful acts like this which make the world a better place!
