’This is the best idea ever!’ say the locals, referring to an amazing house in Seattle where a preschool and a nursing home happily exist under one roof.
Here, children have the opportunity to spend time with the older generation, benefiting from their wisdom, learning about the aging process and becoming more accepting of people with health problems, while grandmas and grandpas have the time of their lives communicating with the kids and getting involved in fun activities.
The prototype facility, called an Intergenerational Learning Center (ILC), houses more than 400 elderly residents, as well as a few dozen children.
The kids come to visit their new elderly friends five times a week. Together they play music, dance, make art projects, cook and socialize till the sun goes down.
In this way, the kids get a whole bunch of loving grandparents — who, in return, are happy to share the love, proving that our golden years could end up being the most rewarding chapters of our lives.
